Call for Participants

Please be advised, the Application Deadline has now passed

The SPACE Programme 2022 is now open for applications. This latest edition of The Performance Corporation’s collaborative artists residency will focus on the crossover between Arts and Immersive Technology, such as Virtual Reality and Mixed Reality. SPACE offers artists and immersive tech creatives, from a wide variety of backgrounds, the opportunity to work collaboratively and experiment with new forms and ideas.

This opportunity is being offered at a time when immersive tech is revolutionising human connection, the imagination and how we express ourselves. As large corporate interests actively seek dominance of the VR world, there is an urgent need for artists and creatives to carve out a distinctive virtual space where individual creativity can flourish unmediated by the big names of the tech world. SPACE seeks to foster this spirit of independent artistic exploration in this rapidly developing field.

The residency gives participants space to connect and collaborate with a wide range of creatives from different backgrounds, challenge and develop their personal artistic practice, experiment with new ideas and forms, explore the potential of new technology in artistic creation.

We are seeking applications from artists in any practice who have some experience in working with immersive technology. Similarly, we would like to hear from technologists, VR developers, interactive designers and creators who have a record of artistic expression and/or experimentation through immersive tech

Over the past 13 years over 70 artists from all over the world have benefitted from the SPACE programme. Each year’s outcome has been vastly different due to the hugely varied alignments of artforms, artists and interrogations involved.

The consistent takeaway for particpants has been that they have gained new expertise and understanding of the different ecologies we are all part of, a deeper knowledge of different work practices as well as new connections. Participants leave with stronger starting points from which to initiate and facilitate collaboration, innovation and new idea generation.

We will provide:

  • A space exclusively for innovative and dynamic creatives from the arts and Immersive Technology worlds
  • A focus on how collaborations in this field can be best achieved
  • The opportunity to explore, play, make and experiment without the pressure to produce an outcome
  • The exclusive use of the amazing spaces of the Tyrone Guthrie Centre, the artists residence at Annaghmakerrig in County Monaghan, Ireland
